About Hotel Poseidon
Originally constructed as a private villa, the Hotel Poseidon opened its doors to the public in 1955, and is still going strong as a member of Positano’s small-but-elite fraternity of classic luxury hotels. It’s set halfway up Positano’s curving slope, on the sunrise-facing side, giving it a spectacular view of the town and the sea, as well as easy enough access to the beach. Inside, the Poseidon’s style pays generous tribute to the era of its birth. Were it not for some thoughtful technological upgrades, it could still pass for what it essentially is: a mid-century snapshot of Positano’s timeless elegance. It’s still family-owned, and operated with the pride that that implies — here the classical virtues of hospitality are still practiced at the highest level. There’s a lovely pool on a terrace, as well as a small spa. A convertible Volkswagen Beetle is available for loan — a ride with a great deal more character than an ordinary modern luxury car. And a sunset dinner at the terrace restaurant, Il Tridente, is perhaps the moment that ties it all together, featuring traditional Neapolitan cuisine served against the backdrop of a view that is truly iconic.
