Such is the boom in Chinese luxury hospitality that even a city like Changsha can play host to a spectacularly modern W hotel. Architects Cheng Chung Design took their inspiration from the city’s astronomical associations to create a “Starry Universe,” resulting in an arrival experience that manages to reclaim the sense of surprise for which the original W hotels were once known — this is among the most theatrical and dramatic luxury hotels we’ve seen. The rooms are lavish and modern, the comforts are legion and high-end, and the restaurants, naturally, offer several interpretations of contemporary Hunan cuisine.
