About Hôtel de la Poste
As the name suggests, it’s Cortina d’Ampezzo’s former post office that provides the raw material for the Hôtel de la Poste. But this alpine chalet-style building, later turned into an inn, is better known for another bit of history: Ernest Hemingway was a regular at its now-legendary bar in the late 1940s, and his typewriter and books remain in a museum-like first-floor suite where he stayed several times. The hotel was renovated in time for the 1956 Winter Olympics and still retains much of its mid-century charm, with rooms featuring antique furniture, parquet floors, and vintage chandeliers. The wood-paneled restaurant and lounge are straight out of another era, and the wide terrace bar is a fine spot for aperitivi with sweeping views of the Dolomites.
