About River Lodge Paso
The old ranch town of Paso Robles, once a nondescript exit off Highway 101 on the trip between San Francisco and Los Angeles, has emerged as an up-and-coming wine country destination with hotels and restaurants to match. One of the standouts, River Lodge, is equally well suited for a leisurely stay as it is a short stopover — visible from the freeway, it was originally a 1940s-era motor lodge. The mid-century modern design has been smartly preserved, from the retro façade to the postcard-like pool surrounded by potted greenery and sunbeds. But guest rooms were thoroughly upgraded with bespoke furnishings, stylish work spaces, and private porches or yards, some with Bolivian hammocks or firepits. Complimentary Linus bikes and a poolside cocktail bar add to the appeal.
