About Palais Hassoun
Not far outside Marrakech, on the road leading to the Atlas Mountains, an elegant Indo-Moorish villa rises up behind a row of palm trees. Keyhole-shaped doors lead past the coral-hued facade into a labyrinth of terracotta-lined passageways, cozy fireplace-warmed lounges, mosaic-lined dining rooms, and open-air courtyards — and then to magnificent gardens with a large olive tree-framed swimming pool and a pond dotted with floating water lilies. When Palais Hassoun isn’t rented out in its entirety, it’s possible to snag one of its nine rooms or suites for an overnight. Each is uniquely decorated with artisan-made details including carved wooden doors, ornamental lanterns, and colorful handcrafted rugs. Bathrooms are lined in rich green marble, each with a luxurious soaking tub, and many have large windows overlooking the grounds. A handful of suites, located directly off the hotel’s upper-level terrace, have wraparound nature views, decorative antique furniture, and private patios. The oasis-like central garden is the place to be during the day, preferably on a chaise longue by the pool, while the rooftop is the best spot to catch the sunset. But even on a rainy day, there’s much to explore and appreciate without leaving the property, including the palace’s impressive art collection and a library filled with travel books.
