    About Maison Jullian

There are just three rooms at Maison Jullian, a boutique hotel in Béziers. They’re named after the wife and daughters of Martien Jullian, a local vineyard owner who built the late 19th-century villa — a folie, or petite urban château — as his family home on the edge of the oldest canal in Europe. Quaint and rich with historic character after restorations by the new owners, the interiors are filled with romantic details: wisteria wallpaper by Laura Ashley, a wardrobe crafted out of an antique travel trunk, a mother-of-pearl chandelier, a cast-iron clawfoot tub. Two rooms incorporate the castle’s turrets, one repurposed into a reading room and the other into a boudoir, and all have views over the Canal du Midi. While there’s no doubt the upstairs suites are dreamy, equally intriguing are the owner’s original Moorish-style billiards room, with its stained glass windows and high domed ceiling, now a restaurant specializing in slow food, and the English gardens, with their antique greenhouse and natural swimming pool.
