About Layla Tulum
You might not expect to find a Moroccan riad in one of Mexico’s trendiest beach towns. But in the case of Layla Tulum, a boutique hotel tucked away on one of downtown Tulum’s liveliest streets, the concept feels surprisingly natural. Stepping through its ornate arched doorway is like transporting yourself to Marrakech, the lush central courtyard framed by intricate tilework and illuminated by artisan-made lanterns. Its centerpiece is a palm tree-shaded pool lined with geometric turquoise tiles, and elegant poolside tables for two are the perfect spot for sipping mint tea. Or a margarita: you’re still in Mexico, and there’s another pool on the rooftop, this one more tropical in style with a lively mezcal bar and daybeds for lounging in the sun. Rooms are a mix of minimalist chic — poured concrete floors, floor-to-ceiling glass — and decorative Moroccan, with Moorish arches, hanging beds, and spectacular bathrooms covered from top to bottom in colorful patterned tiles. A Middle Eastern-Mexican fusion restaurant and access to a chic beach club, about a 20-minute ride away, add to the appeal.

- Aloft TulumAloft Tulum is the practical, low-friction pick on the town side of Tulum — easy to book, covered by Marriott Bonvoy points, and priced below the boutique beach-zone competition. It works well for business travellers or loyalty program users, but it is not the property for a design-led or beach-first stay. For that, look elsewhere in the hotel zone.
- Amansala Resort |Beachclub | SpaAmansala combines beachclub, spa, and resort in one property at KM 5.5 on the Tulum Hotel Zone — a format that works well for guests who want beach access, wellness, and social energy in one location. Best booked November through April. Not the right call if service consistency or amenity depth is your priority.
