About Arizona Biltmore\u002c A Waldorf Astoria Resort
The legendary Arizona Biltmore is Phoenix’s grandest hotel, the lodging of choice for old-money Arizonans and illustrious VIP visitors since its opening in 1929. This is a hotel so woven into the fabric of Phoenix’s history that it’s lent its name to the surrounding Biltmore district, and a hotel with a genuine architectural pedigree: built by Albert Chase McArthur with a little help from his friend Frank Lloyd Wright, it’s a modernist monolith with a textile-block texture and distinctive stained-glass skylights, a central Phoenix landmark and one of America’s classic hotels. They just don’t make them on this massive a scale anymore. Five restaurants, eight swimming pools and seven tennis courts do their best to entertain the occupants of the Biltmore’s seven-hundred-plus rooms. And what rooms they are. Generously sized and lavishly furnished, they avoid adobe-pink Southwest kitsch for an urbane Mission-influenced style and an elegant Thirties influence. For even more space and luxury, try the villas, with views of Squaw Peak and Camelback Mountain. The health club and spa offer every conceivable diversion, and next door is the Biltmore Country Club with its two eighteen-hole golf courses. This is old-fashioned resort hospitality on a grand scale, with a guest register that includes any number of presidents and Hollywood stars. There are newer and trendier hotels in Phoenix, to be sure, but few with anything approaching the grandeur and the history of the Biltmore. How to get there: The Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa is approximately 30 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
