Near the banks of Lake Schluchsee and surrounded by thick Black Forest trees, Boutique Hotel Mühle is a 17th-century grain mill that has been carefully reimagined as a soulful little retreat. The stream that once powered the mill still runs beside the terrace, and signs of its history show up in the timber beams and tiled stoves. The owners are hands-on and present, and it shows, from the wood-fired sauna to the small, well-run restaurant, where local ingredients take on subtle French and Japanese influences. It is an easygoing place with real character, perfect for slow days and early nights.
