About The Inn at Mattei\u0027s Tavern\u002c Auberge Collection
The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern has been a fixture in the Santa Ynez Valley wine-country town of Los Olivos since as far back as the 1880s. Safe to say, though, that in its original form it was a shade or two less luxurious than it is now, under the direction of Auberge Collection. It comes by its retro vibe honestly, in other words, but alongside its historic charms you’ll find all the trappings of a modern Californian luxury resort. Its accommodations range from beautifully restored 19th-century cottages to rooms and suites in a handful of new buildings, designed to complement the original style — so there’s less to distinguish the old from the new than you might expect. All of them are exceedingly comfortable, even luxurious, though in a down-to-earth, unpretentious way. And there’s much more going on here than just a fine collection of bedrooms. The Lavender Barn contains a remarkably full-featured spa and wellness center, while the Tavern itself is now an upscale Californian restaurant supplied by the farms and ranches of the Central Coast. Local wine is abundant, as you’d expect, and wine tours, whether guided or self-directed, feature prominently on most guests’ agendas.
