About Villa Escondida
The Pacific coast of Oaxaca is pretty close to paradise on earth, and mercifully it’s extremely under-traveled compared to Mexico’s marquee destinations. In fact it’s shocking at this late date that a place like Villa Escondida can have a little stretch of coastline all to itself, a short distance from the Huatulco airport. This is not strictly a hotel, but a guest house: with four suites it’s about as small as they come, and is reserved as a fully staffed villa rather than room-by-room. And while it’s got plenty of luxe comforts, from spa-like bathrooms to luxury bedding, air conditioning, and high-speed internet, it’s not a fussy place — it’s pet-friendly, and as casual as can be. The finest suite is number four, with a stunning view out to sea from both the bedroom and the bathroom. But everyone benefits from Villa Escondida’s finely positioned public spaces, from its elevated pool deck to its various living rooms and terraces. Huatulco’s coastline is a treasure, and opportunities abound for outdoor recreation, from whale-watching and deep-sea fishing to kayak or ATV tours and some very fine diving and snorkeling. Cultural experiences can be arranged as well, and the unique Copalita Eco-Archaeological Park is practically right next door. The local culinary tradition is a highlight as well — Villa Escondida’s chef serves up a sampling in the villa’s open-air dining room, and a more interactive Oaxacan culinary experience can be arranged as well.
