About Sophie\u0027s Gasthaus
The German enclave of New Braunfels, on the fringes of San Antonio, is the setting for Sophie’s Gasthaus, a 1906 mansion that is now, after a significant restoration at the hands of its new owner, a luxury boutique inn and events venue quite unlike anything in town. At its root, it’s as old-fashioned as hospitality can get: just a lovely house with a character all its own, backed up by service that’s both friendly and professional. But what sets it apart is the quality of its execution and, ultimately, the excellent taste of its proprietor, who combines a keen eye for contemporary style with an appreciation for the antique elegance of the house’s original form. Facilities are somewhat minimal — in addition to the eight suites you’ll find a pool, a hot tub, and a café — but they’re more than enough, given the house’s proximity to New Braunfels’ compact and walkable town center.
