About Atalante
Most lodgings in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré are located in town, but the secluded Hôtel Atalante is right on the beach. Tucked between vineyards and the ocean on the island’s southern coast, it’s a quiet, sophisticated escape with a focus on wellness and relaxation. Rooms are elegant and down-to-earth, outfitted in neutral hues and natural materials, and many have sea-facing balconies or terraces. The waterfront pool, framed by triangular cabanas, is a big draw, as is the expansive oceanview spa with its heated saltwater pool, sauna, and hammam. Other than that, there’s little to do here but stroll on the beach or sip coffee on the hotel’s wide wooden deck, and that’s sort of the point. But after a late-morning massage, it’s easy to explore Île de Ré’s bicycle paths and wineries and still make it back in time for sunset drinks.
