But the local craft has advanced quickly enough to produce not only some notable exports but arguably the first hotel of its kind in the UK: the surprising and picturesque Llanerch Vineyard Hotel. The estate and its vineyards are surrounded by ten acres of woodland that lend the experience a feeling of seclusion, even though the location is actually quite a convenient one, mere minutes from Cardiff. And the in-room experience is as tranquil as can be, thanks not only to the pastoral views but to the warm, modernist-inspired interiors and the quietly luxurious comforts. Of course the accommodations are only part of the appeal of a vineyard hotel. Tastings and tours make up a large part of the programming, and a woodland walk is a fine way to work up an appetite for a meal in Llanerch’s bistro-style restaurant, whose locally sourced dishes are a celebration of the bounty of the Welsh countryside.
