About Rookery Hall
Hotels like Cheshire’s Rookery Hall are a reminder that even in the boutique-hotel era there’s plenty to love about the classic forms of hospitality. This Georgian-era house stands on nearly 40 acres of land, close enough to Manchester and Liverpool for convenience’s sake, but secluded enough for a proper country getaway. The original house, naturally, remains as elegant as ever; the rooms (and one suite) are divided between the main house and a tasteful late-20th-century addition. The latter are a touch more contemporary in style, but only a touch, and there’s no sense of second-class about them. Among the most welcome contemporary interventions is the spa, which transforms the old stables into a striking modern space featuring an indoor pool under a glass roof. Meanwhile, for dinner, it’s back to classic elegance; the Restaurant at Rookery Hall is handsome in dark wood, and is complemented by the Drawing Room & Bar and the casual Spa Café.
