On an island as popular as Mykonos, there are two ways of interpreting the name: The Wild Hotel, thankfully, isn’t wild like an all-night party, but rather wild like an undiscovered, unmolested patch of ocean-facing hillside — which is exactly what it is. Here on the island’s southeast coast, just about as far as you can get from Mykonos town, the vibe is bohemian, hand-crafted, and back-to-nature; all of which, of course, is perfectly compatible with a certain level of unpretentious luxury. 40 rooms, suites, and villas cascade down the terraced hillside, each one facing out to sea, all of them photogenic, and the best of them, including the suites and villas, supplied with extra luxuries like plunge pools or en-suite dining rooms. Not that you’ll need to worry about preparing your own meals; the Wild’s proprietors were restaurateurs first, responsible for Interni, one of the best-loved restaurants in Mykonos. Here their Taverna confidently prepares locally sourced Greek fare inspired by the Slow Food movement, and serves it in a multitude of spaces, from the dining room and terrace to the poolside and the beach. About that: among the Wild’s most magical spaces is its private beach, in a protected cove just a few steps down the rocky hillside; a little higher up is an infinity pool with an impressive view of the Aegean.
