The word “guesthouse” slightly understates the scale, but it captures the concept: Kinn Guesthouse looks and feels like a perfectly modern design-forward boutique hotel, but with a slightly low-key, all-suite residential vibe. This means a self-guided check-in with no traditional front desk, and a set of fully stocked kitchens for guest use. The suites, for their part, are as stylish as any big-city boutique hotel, and benefit from plenty of extra space as well as substantial comforts — the bedrooms are furnished with attractive, usable pieces, including luxe Omaha mattresses and bedding by Brooklinen, and the bathrooms are positively indulgent. The look is the sort of urban-loft aesthetic at which this storied industrial city excels, made even more modern by the inclusion of some adventurous color choices and eye-catching contemporary art. Guests with an appetite for self-catering are welcome to use one of Kinn Guesthouse’s fully stocked communal kitchens; for full service, there’s the Wolf on Broadway, a restaurant and bar by the local restaurateurs Wolfgang Schaefer and Whitney McAllister. Beyond that, downtown Milwaukee is blessed with seemingly no end of worthwhile restaurants and bars, not to mention shops and other attractions — though the service concept may be low-profile, your hosts are full of recommendations.
