About Casal Santa Eulalia
Travelers who like the idea of visiting Majorca but find themselves put off by talk of foam parties, streets packed with nightclubs and hordes of package-holiday makers, should do an about-face at the Son Sant Joan airport and head north to the Casal Santa Eulalia, a converted traditional farmhouse that embodies the opposite of all those off-putting stories. Here the interiors dispense almost entirely with the traditional farmhouse look, with a striking mix of wooden ceiling beams, modern soft furnishings and traditional furniture, while the color schemes combine pastels with stone, wood and glass. And though the estate is hundreds of years old, the modernisation of the hotel has still allowed it to retain its charm, while incorporating most amenities that guests demand — plus a few welcome extras such as three swimming pools, a gym, sauna and Jacuzzi, a tennis court, and the chance to grab a bike and explore the nearby trails. The beautiful Alcudia beach is also close by. Arguments over whether it’s Majorca or Mallorca can be settled over a meal in the Casal restaurant that can be found in the old wine cellar, or round the barbeque in the Sa Pedrera tapas bar on the terrace. A choice of superior double rooms and junior or full suites can be yours in the farmhouse, while 12 studio-style houses are located a short distance away, accessed via a tunnel which runs under the local road. Leaving the unimaginative to enjoy the south side of island is the perfect way to discover something approximating the “real” Majorca, complete with olive trees, unusual architecture and the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Landmark spotters should not despair, however, as there are great views of the famous Catedral in Palma from the plane on the way in. Kindly note that the hotel is seasonally closed from November until the end of March. How to get there: Casal Santa Eulalia is approximately a 50 minute drive Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).
