Fausto falls squarely into the latter category: the boutique guesthouse has just five rooms. Housed in an elegant 1920s townhouse on a tree-lined street just a block from the coastal promenade, the hotel is sophisticated but casual, like staying in the home of a stylish friend. A sleek kitchen is open to guests, the fridge is full of complimentary snacks, and an honesty bar is stocked around the clock. Communal spaces include the sala, a cozy ground-level living room that opens onto a pretty tiled patio, and the open-air terrace on the top floor. Instead of knocking down walls or reconfiguring the layout, Fausto’s owners have let things be; the house's original bedrooms still serve their original function. These days, they’re modern and simply furnished, divided into three categories. The minimalist Pequeña room is large enough to fit a double bed, desk, and chair, but not much else, while the Mediana room features a high-arching doorway that leads onto a luminous private patio. The Grande room is a standout with its four-poster bed, sitting area, and freestanding soaking tub. At any rate, Fausto is a social spot — not the kind of place to hole up in the room. Friendly staff are on hand to offer recommendations or mix the perfect pisco sour, but the hotel’s location near the neighborhood’s clifftop park makes it an ideal base for independent exploring.
