A two-story mid-century motel alongside the Coast Highway is an auspicious beginning, in the hands of the right hotelier; Avi Brosh’s Palisociety has ample expertise with this sort of thing, and under their direction this property’s potential has now been fully realized. Le Petit Pali Laguna Beach is packed with character, both inside and out, blending coastal California cool with a healthy dose of Northeastern prep style and a pronounced European accent. It’s less over-the-top lavish than some of its near neighbors, but that’s by design; it’s hipper than they’ll ever be, and at a small fraction of the price. None of which is to say there’s anything less than swanky about these 41 rooms and suites, with their Diptyque bath products and their Grind espresso machines. Equally important, of course, is the social life; the day begins with a champagne continental breakfast, and drinks are served by the poolside.
