About Maana Kiyomizu
Kyoto’s signature machiya townhouses represent a traditional way of life that’s very much worth preserving into the future, and a new breed of boutique hotels is doing just that. Maana Kiyomizu is an impecably tasteful modern update of a row of restored classic machiya houses, resulting in a tiny but perfectly crafted three-suite boutique hotel. The décor, by the artisan crafts brand POJ Studio, pays generous tribute to Japanese handmade traditions, while the hotel’s comforts, aided by the composed simplicity of the architecture, conspire to create an experience that’s roughly equal parts restorative and transformative.
