Lily Country Club, a half-hour outside of Oslo, takes the traditionally golf-focused idea of the country club and expands it in as many directions as the concept will allow — resulting in a remarkably diverse rural escape. Yes, there’s golf, courtesy of the neighboring Miklagard Golf Club. But the dining and drinking venues, for example, go far beyond typical clubhouse fare, and include a French- and Italian-influenced brasserie as well as a modern cocktail bar. The accommodations, too, are anything but secondary to the golfing experience. Here you’ll find nearly 500 rooms and suites, decorated in a handsome and warm contemporary style — luxurious, but typically Norwegian in their avoidance of anything flashy or ostentatious. There’s a spa and wellness center that’s very much the equal of the club’s golf facilities. And Lily Country Club also offers access to a number of outdoor explorations that go far beyond the fairways and manicured greens, from self-directed hikes to guided alpaca treks across the Norwegian landscape.
