Why go
Little Cat Lodge is worth booking for a design-minded Hillsdale base with small-lodge character, especially on foliage, winter, or summer weekends. Choose a suite only if the room needs to double as a hangout; otherwise, a standard room is the cleaner value move. Little Cat Lodge's 2025 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection supports its quality without making it feel like a formal resort.

The take
The Take
The Vibe
Little Cat Lodge reads like a deliberately designed, small-scale Catskills escape. The property sits on a rural stretch of Catamount Road amid forest cover and elevation shifts, and emphasizes atmosphere and "a sense of place". A MICHELIN Selected designation frames the lodge as a thoughtful, high‑quality option: inspectors recommend it on the basis of character and coherence. The overall impression is of a refined, intimate retreat that prioritizes local context and a cohesive guest experience rather than mass-market resort trappings.
Best For
This is a stay for travelers who prize mood and specificity. Little Cat Lodge is suited to couples and solo travelers seeking a concise, well‑made escape: the kind of place that rewards visitors who care more about character and quiet setting than about an exhaustive amenity list. Its MICHELIN Selected status also makes it appealing to readers looking for vetted quality in the Catskills; the property sits naturally within weekend escapes and romantic getaways for people who want a coherent, place‑forward stay.

Hotel context
How It Compares
Little Cat Lodge is the pick for travelers who want a polished lodge feel without pushing into grand-hotel territory. Compared with Prospect Berkshires, it is the more mountain-road, getaway-coded choice; Prospect Berkshires is the cleaner cross-shop if the priority is a broader Berkshires hotel base rather than a Hillsdale-focused stay.
Race Brook Lodge is the better fit for guests who want a more rustic, outdoors-first mood, while Little Cat Lodge is stronger for a first-timer who wants the rural setting to feel edited and easier to read. Granville House should be on the list for travelers leaning toward inn-style quiet rather than lodge energy.
If the trip is a splurge and the hotel itself is the main event, Wheatleigh is the more formal luxury comparison. Little Cat Lodge makes more sense when value is measured by setting, style, and access to the Hillsdale area rather than by a heavier service model or estate-hotel formality.
