About Stage 47
Resolve a little linguistic ambiguity and suddenly it’s perfectly clear what Stage 47 is all about: not the 47th stage of some process, but rather a design-conscious modern boutique hotel dedicated to the theatre arts, whose address at Graf-Adolf-Strasse 47 places it in the very same building as Düsseldorf’s Savoy Theatre and its Atelier Kino cinema. For obvious reasons, then, it’s a favorite with the theatrical set, and not incidentally a big hit among serious shoppers as well, as the Königsallee, one of Europe’s best-known upscale retail districts, lies just a few blocks away. The rooms take several strides away from the blankness of hotel minimalism, livening their clean lines with almost baroque patterns and textures. Each is dedicated to a different German actor or actress, whose black-and-white portrait comes close to dominating the room. And while the superior and deluxe rooms are just large enough, the suites very quickly spread out into residential sizes. All in all Stage 47 is stylish but not domineering, luxe but not extravagant, and accessible in its understated hipness. Perfect for a working actor or a cultural enthusiast of any stripe, and a hotel that does the city of Düsseldorf the best kind of justice.
