It’s a unique name for what’s certainly the most unique hotel in Des Moines, Iowa — the Surety Hotel is named for one of this century-old building’s historic tenants, and in its new form it pays tribute to the city’s past as well as the artists and creators that are key to its current evolution. The interiors are decorated in a handsome mid-century modern style, and spaces are plentiful; rooms are furnished with luxe details like Sferra linens and original works by local artists. Mulberry Street Tavern, meanwhile, is the kind of restaurant and bar that foretells a bright future for the city’s downtown.
