Surrounded by forest in Baerenthal is L’Arnsbourg, known above all for its Michelin-starred restaurant, showcasing the cooking of chef and owner Fabien Mengus. Together with his wife Laure he also operates a hotel on the site, which, like the dining room, benefits from floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the wooded hillsides. The rooms and suites are clean-lined and contemporary, and all of them come with balconies for making the most of the direct interface with nature. Stay long enough and you’ll have time for dinner at Le Cygne, the proprietors’ other Michelin-starred establishment, two towns to the east.
