A proper mid-century hospitality icon, the InterContinental Jordan has been a mainstay on Amman’s luxury-hotel scene since it opened in the Sixties. And while the spirit of ’62 is very much back in style, at least in the world of design, this is not a hotel that’s content to rest on its laurels. What you’ll find within its walls is not a restoration or a re-creation of a Sixties luxury hotel, but a thoroughly modern one whose style pays tribute to classic Modernism as well as the long, long history of Arab architecture and design. Its rooms and suites are luxurious, as you might expect, and eminently tasteful — this is not a hotel that’s given to excess for its own sake. That said, it also suffers from no shortage of luxuries; the spa, the health club, the pool terrace, and the Club lounge are all as lavish as they come. And among the InterContinental Jordan’s greatest strengths is its wide-ranging selection of restaurants, from the award-winning Lebanese restaurant Bourj Al Hamam to upscale Indian at Indu, the Soba Sushi Bar, and some surprising Mexican fare courtesy of Cinco de Mayo.
