Sitting in the Galician village of Gaxate, the Swiss-designed Villa Boutique 1880 remained in the hands of three generations of the same local family before it was sensitively transformed into a hotel. To respect this heritage, individually designed rooms take their names and character from the building’s architectural details and family stories, but expect a mix of classic neutral shades, rustic beams, and original arched windows that look across the manicured gardens. It’s here where you’ll find the outdoor heated pool, which can be complemented by a number of different yoga classes—Hatha, Vinyasa, and even Tog Chöd and Tibetan Sword Yoga—or with spa treatments that combine the relaxing properties of massage, aromatherapy and sound healing. The restaurant puts a contemporary riff on Galician flavors and produce with a seafood-driven menu and Spanish dessert favorites such as filloas, torrijas, and baked cheesecake.
