A 67 Pall Mall members’ evening in London previewing Dr Christina Makris’s Art in Vineyards: Cultivating Culture.
This 67 Pall Mall members’ evening marks the launch of Art in Vineyards: Cultivating Culture, the new book by the Club’s art curator, Dr Christina Makris. The book is described as the first work of its kind to examine the relationship between art, wine and place across vineyards worldwide, looking at estates that have developed into cultural destinations where winemaking and visual art sit in dialogue.
The conversation will cover how vineyards including Château Mouton Rothschild, Ornellaia, Bodegas Colomé and Leeuwin Estate have made art part of their identity through collecting, commissioning and exhibiting works in their landscapes. The focus is the intersection of viticulture, landscape and visual culture, followed by a Q&A in which members are encouraged to add their voices.
Christina Makris appears in conversation with Victoria Mason MW, Wine Buyer and Climate & Nature Lead at The Wine Society. Makris’s background spans philosophy, cultural commentary and writing, with work appearing in publications including The Art Newspaper, Sotheby’s, The World of Fine Wine and Apollo.
The programme begins with a welcome reception before the talk, then moves into a Q&A and member mingling. Christina’s book will be available to purchase on the night with an exclusive 67 Pall Mall member discount of 25%, and an optional author’s signature or dedication is available.
