Grand Siècle and assemblage

This masterclass centers on Laurent-Perrier’s approach to prestige Champagne through assemblage. The program contrasts that approach with the more common prestige-cuvée model of vintage wines, presenting Grand Siècle as Laurent-Perrier’s top Champagne and as a blend of three complementary vintages rather than a single-year release.

The guiding idea is that assemblage can create what Laurent-Perrier describes as a “perfect year,” with each Grand Siècle iteration intended to be greater than the sum of its parts. Edouard Cossy, Global Director of Grand Siècle, leads the session and uses the tasting to explain the house’s philosophy.

The four-wine tasting

The tasting begins with Laurent-Perrier Millésimé 2018, positioned as the single-vintage reference point. From there, the program moves to Grand Siècle Itération N°27, which is listed as a blend created from the 2015, 2013, and 2012 vintages.

The final comparison focuses on Grand Siècle Itération N°24, crafted from the 2007, 2006, and 2004 vintages. It is shown in both bottle and magnum format, with the format comparison used to examine the different timelines of evolution that bottle size can allow.

The published program names four pours: Millésimé 2018, Grand Siècle Itération N°27, Grand Siècle Itération N°24, and Grand Siècle Itération N°24 en Magnum. The same program notes that exact wines and vintages are subject to change.
