Launched in 1956 by The AA, the Rosette scheme was the first nationwide restaurant assessment programme in the United Kingdom. It is administered by AA Hospitality Services and covers restaurants and hotel dining rooms across England, Scotland, Wales. Awards are tiered from one rosette; indicating cooking that is a cut above the local average; through to five rosettes, which denotes cooking at the pinnacle of culinary excellence. Ireland withdrew from the scheme in February 2022.

AA inspectors visit restaurants anonymously and assess the quality of food, sourcing of ingredients, technical skill, creativity. This inspection-led approach is entirely separate from Pearl's own venue-matching process, which maps AA-recognised establishments to Pearl's database of hospitality venues.

The AA Rosette is one of the most widely recognised marks of culinary quality in the UK. A five-rosette award is exceptionally rare and places a restaurant among the country's finest. The scheme is frequently cited alongside Michelin as a benchmark for serious diners.
