A stylish retro air prevails at Henri Hotel, from the elegant brick exterior, where the hotel’s name is lit up in marquee lettering, to guest rooms outfitted with vintage telephones and antique writing desks. Located in downtown Hamburg, this boutique hotel is located inside a restored office building, and some of its original mid-century modern décor remains. It’s Mad Men-esque, but with a contemporary German twist; with no secretaries around, you’ll make your own espresso, and in lieu of martinis and wedge salads in the evening, there’s Abendbrød, a light evening meal based around seasonal ingredients. Guest rooms are as smartly furnished as you’d expect, but thoroughly practical, with cozy seating areas and nicely equipped coffee stations.
