About Domes Lake Algarve
Portugal’s southern coast is enough for most hotels, but Domes Lake Algarve, in the spirit of going the extra mile, adds a private lake, just yards from the Vilamoura harbor, to its offerings — which already include access to the beach at Praia de Falesia. This extravagant resort looks, from the lake side, practically like a city unto itself, its terraced wings and villas dotted with balconies facing out to sea. The Domes hotel brand originated in Greece, and while you won’t find the typical blue-and-white Cycladic color scheme here — the style is authentically Portuguese — there is a certain minimalist confidence to the décor, and a willingness to let the view draw the eye out the window. The rooms (“retreats” in the Domes vernacular) and the suites are luxe enough, and the one- and two-bedroom Residences offer a bit more privacy and self-sufficiency. Like so many Portuguese seaside resorts, Domes is family-friendly to a remarkable degree; activities for kids are plentiful and well-supervised. For the adults there’s the Soma spa, as well as a fitness program with personal trainers. And a multitude of restaurants and bars serves everything from cold drinks by the poolside to upscale Portugues fare with an Italian accent, in tribute to the region’s Roman settlers.
