About Andersen Hotel
Flying in the face of Copenhagen stereotypes, the Andersen Boutique Hotel deals lightly in export-grade Scandinaviana. Here, fun comes before function, with not a pale wooden chair in sight. Bold graphics trump comforting coziness, and carpet replaces the expected smooth planks underfoot. Still, the coat hangers are from Muuto, a design brand specializing in New Nordic minimalism, and some staff wear uniforms by the hip local label David Andersen Denmark. This smaller offshoot of the well-known, family-run Absalon Hotel uses fabrics and colors from the famed Designers Guild to create a sense of freshness and gloss. Lively-hued blankets in geometric patterns cover the ubiquitous Quilt of Denmark duvets. Everything pops. Sinks and toilets come courtesy of Philippe Starck. And, like its sister property, Andersen offers the appealing Green Concept: if you choose to skip room cleaning during your stay, you’ll be rewarded with a gift. The Vesterbro neighborhood has gone from gritty to glamorous, and Andersen places you close to Istedgade, Halmtorvet, and Værnedamsvej (also known as “food street”), all lined with cool boutiques and popular cafés.
