About Hotel Koo Otsuhyakucho
Hotel Koo is a hotel with a mission: to bring life back to a fading post town once central to the Tokaido route. Its 13 rooms are spread across restored century-old machiya in Otsu’s old shopping arcades, designed with craft, intention, and standout furniture by names like Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner. Through a system called “Stay Funding,” part of every visit supports local shops and artisans. Just nine minutes by train from Kyoto, Otsu offers quieter streets, lake views, and cultural landmarks often overlooked by guidebooks.
