Right in the heart of Medellín, in the exceedingly vibrant neighborhood of El Poblado, is a lavish fantasy of a boutique hotel, a riotous marriage of clean-lined modernism, Art Deco splendor, and everything in between. Marquee Medellín’s 42 rooms are impressive enough, with their floor-to-ceiling windows and wood paneling and their gold trim; some suites add jacuzzis, and the two penthouse suites are as extravagant as anything in town, and perhaps in all of Colombia. The restaurant, Abbiocco, interprets Italian cuisine through a local lens, and the hotel’s crown jewel is its open-air rooftop bar. Be prepared: this is an all-night party district, and quiet moments are few and far between — light sleepers should definitely look elsewhere.
